The Secret Component of the Indian Global CEO factory – Rejo Francis
When each one of us are born we are all born blessed with 3 qualities in abundance.
1.Charm
Charm because every baby we meet is a charmer. There is no baby that we meet who doesn’t charm you with their actions, words and acts.
2. Talent
When we are all young, we are not shy and are willing to show off our talents freely. Even if some of the talents are of a lesser scale, we do not feel it is less and love to use it or rather flaunt it. When we were all young and in the early years of our schooling, we were all happy to sing and dance and do any kind of events that we were asked to do. It is as we grew up that we started feeling that maybe I don’t have this talent or maybe I don’t have this capability and these inhibitions stopped us from trying, experimenting, and taking our talents forward.
3.Perseverance
When a baby starts walking and moving around have, we ever seen them stop trying. They will fall, crumble but they will again try the same act after a while. So, all of us are born with perseverance.
Some of us will continue to develop some of these skills and these become our predominant strengths and identities in later life. Now let’s see what happens when a person continues developing these skills in tandem.
When a person develops Charm and Talent together, we have someone whom we very often call a prodigy. Someone who is extremely talented and charming. As shown in the diagram below the intersection point of Charm and Talent where both talents are well developed is where prodigies are found.
Some examples which come in from the sporting field are Jaspreet Bumrah, Surya Kumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma, Yuvraj Singh and so on
When a person develops both Charm and Perseverance, we have whom we could call as extremely consistent and Dependable performers who are successful in their field. Very often these people who are blessed with much lesser talents than others become more successful with their sheer persistence and never give up attitude. As seen in the diagram below the intersection of Charm and Perseverance is where such people are found.
The best example which comes to mind from sports is Rahul Dravid who is much less talented that many of his peers but managed to be more consistent and successful.
When a person develops both Talent and Perseverance, he becomes a great in his respective field. As seen in the diagram below the intersection of Talent and Perseverance is where such people are found
Taking example from sports one of the best persons who comes to mind immediately is Virat Kohli. While there were players who were more talented than him in the early days of his career with sheer perseverance, he was able to get to the level that he has been for the last several years.
When someone can develop all the three skills of Talent, Charm and Perseverance that is when that person becomes an All Time great. As can be seen from the diagram below the intersection of Talent, Charm and Perseverance is were these All-Time Greats are found.
Couple of great examples that are coming into mind from the sporting field are Sachin Tendulkar and Roger Federer who have developed all the three traits to become all-time greats.
While I had taken the examples of very famous sports personalities to drive home the point all of us are born with all these traits. It is also important to note that not all of these greats started out by being equally good in all the three qualities but have worked on them and developed them during the course of their lives to get to where they want to be. Some of the people who were quoted as presently in categories like prodigies and greats could also end up being in the all-time great group by the time they finish their career.
Like I said in the beginning of the article all of us are born with all these traits. It is because of the social practice of conditioning which has taken root in the last few hundred years where we are taught to fit in that we end up losing or forgetting many of the skills that we were born with.
